Thought I would post a checklist of questions to ask when choosing a lawyer specialising in spinal injury. I know this may only be able to help a few, but hopefully it may help others in the future.

Questions to ask:

Who will be the specific lawyer who will be dealing with your case?

How many cases does this lawyer handle at any one time (be mindful that a heavy case load may mean less attention to your case)?

Does this lawyer have detailed experience in dealing in situations such as yours (ask for case examples and references)?

Does this lawyer have medical understanding of the nature of spinal injury (use medical language that you may understand from speaking to the medical professionals that you interact with)?

What accreditations does the lawyer hold (look for Spinal Injuries Association and Spinal Injuries Association training accreditations)?

Is the firm that you are speaking to a solicitors practice, or is it just a company who is passing leads to solicitors?

Is the firm regulated by the Law Society (you can confirm this by searching on the Law Society website)?

What level of professional indemnity does the law firm have?

Does the firm have access to provide case managers who will organise rehabilitation, nursing care?

Does the firm have access to medical professionals who specialise in spinal injury. If so, who are they?

Does the firm have experience of providing adapted vehicles and making adaptations to housing?

Does the firm have the ability to implement assisted in home technology if this is required?

How can the firm help financially and how quickly can this be done?
