Firstly, I MUST apologise for my absence! embarassed I've been working practically non-stop since starting this Community Care job last July. Indeed, I'm actually working as I type...and I'm typing this from one of my Service-user's pc, on HIS behalf!!

Without breaking confidentiality by mentioning his name, with his permission I can tell you that he has Muscular Dystrophy and is wheelchair bound. Sadly, his marriage failed last year, and whilst he does have a wheelchair accessible vehicle registered in his name, he doesn't actually drive - his wife did!! SHE was the Insurance Policy-holder, and had 60% no-claims bonus. As Fully Comp', his father has been able to drive him around, but his estranged wife has now refused to continue to be the policy-holder....and the policy is due for renewal. Obviously, he can't get insurance in his own right, but his father's in his 70's...and the cheapest they've been quoted is £700!!

Has anyone else come across this Insurance problem?? How did you solve it...and can anyone recommend a "disabled-friendly" Insurance Company??!!...Answers on a postcard please!!!!!

I wonder whether it is worth trading his vehicle in for a Motability one. All the ongoings are covered in the monthly charge so insurance is included. If an applicant is not a driver, he can nominate 2 other people to drive. It could be a good solution.
