Be very carefull with stem cell therapy.

There is no stem cell therapy for spinal cord injuries being practiced in the UK that I know of, as all therapies are still in the early stages of clinical trials.

So far, the sten cell therapies being touted in India, China, Russia etc, are very inconclusive, and have very inconsistant results. Most of the recovery being attributed to the stem cell procedures, is argued to of been due to natural recovery and intensive pysiotherapy.

In some cases, these therapies have caused more damage to the spinal cord.

Be very carefull.

Hi Charlotte,

just to echo what Simon has written, theres NO proof that stem cell therapies have actually helped anyone with spinal cord damage to date.  There are a lot of websites claiming to be curing spinal cord injuries already but as Simon says when you read between the lines these are most likely natural recoveries over time predominantly with incomplete injuries.  My own injury in '94 is incomplete, was told no hope of recovery but the damage to my cord was such that with intensive physio and a years rehab I left the unit able to stand with a frame. If stem cell treatment had been available and used then it would be easy to claim that was the reason for my recovery ..........

my understanding that these treatments are still very much in the research stages still which hopefully will lead to effective treatments sometime in the future
