Just thought I would report on these tyres. I finally succumbed last year and bought my own chair as the Health Service does really cover good ones. So I have a Quickie Ti. After I had it a while I swapped the tyres for the above. The chair has 26" x 1" wheels  and the Scwalbe seems the only tyre to have a tread in the size. (To be fair the local cycle centre did it as they were very hard to do!) That was last August.

Now, I don't do long distances in the winter but of course I do the usual trips round town, trips round shopping centres trips to the post box and generally around the house etc. So I have not really pushed these tyres, However, at near 7 months they are still running fine and have got to be good for the summer (if we get one!) To compare, the grey tyres the Health Service use (Primo, I think, and slicks) last me about 3 months.

So the best bit - these tyres are made with a strip of Kevlar under the tread and thus resist punctures. I had several on the new chair with Primo tyres which was what caused me to change. I've pulled bits of staple and an odd drawing pin out of the new tyres but not a sign of a puncture.

Well, er, that's about it. I am highly impressed with these tyres and suggest others have a  look. I certainly will be stayinf with them when they finally need changing.

Hi,

I have had these tyres on my chair since Dec 07, and love them.

They do have a slightly higher rolling resistance when freewheeling, but not much. The tread is the bonus for me, as I push on the tyres, so can get more grip than the Primo's.

There was quite a discusion on Apparelyzed about them here: Tyre Discussion.

I'll definatly be getting replacement SMP's when these wear out!

Simon.

I can second these tyres. They are really able to handle tough use. They are designed to operate at 85 to 90 psi. I use an Airman pump and find free wheeling VERY free!

I started using them back in Aug. 2009 and am in no hurry at all to switch to any other kind!  I've run over broken glass without realizing it (I'm also blind, so can't always tell until it's too late) and, like you I've picked things out of my tires without getting a flat.

I've used Primos and Kenda tires and they don't even begin to compare to these!  I made the switch because I was looking for a tire I could trust on gravel etc. and that had some thread, but not enough to pick up rocks that would scratch floors.  They are the first tires that I feel confident enough with when traveling that I'm not wondering if I'm going to get a flat or not!
