Hello everyone!
Just wanted to let everyone know about my boyfriends surgery on 9/19/2008. It is the only one we have seen here in the states and thought it may be interesting/helpful to someone else out there...

Patrick is getting his metal cage removed from his spine. They are actually removing part of the spine and replacing it with cadaver spine. WOW.... He has a hardware infection, not a bone infection, and the fussion between his C5 and C7 with this cage is perfect which is going to make removal extremly difficult. Let me know if you know of a similar situation or surgery or if you want more info!

I can just second Cate on this. Very best of luck with the operation.

I would be very interested in hearing about the procedure. My partner is in a somewhat similar situation, though his cage spontaneously removed itself completely!!!

Still I'd be interested to hear the U.S. perspective.
Best wishes with it all

So Patrick had his cage/virtebrate removed during a surgery about a week ago- and everything went EXCEPTIONALLY WELL!!! Finally a little bit of positive in two years of 'not catching a break'. They said that the metal in the posterior spine will be enough stability for patrick- so they don't even feel that this one inch gap in his spine will be an issue or even need filling with cadaver bone or relocated bone... So thank god this is almost over....
