Hi
My dad has had his op - he has now able to turn his hand and lift his arm up, however, still no change in his motor function and it appears that his bowels are not working properly.  They are now referring him to the spinal cord injury unit at Pinderfields (I did think he would be going for rehab at a local hospital so this is a bit of a shock).  So, hopefully, his improvment will carry on and he can think ahead of when he can actually go home.

Thanks for the update Michelle - great that the operation is behind him. Now he needs to rest, make sure he doesn't catch an infection and allow his body to heal as much as possible. then he can start with his rehabilitation.

Indeed distance can be difficult when a loved one is in a centre/hospital now close to home - but if everyone takes their turns and people check in with each other, then thanks to a little organisation your dad will have a daily visitor and it won't be the responsibility of just one person as that can be exhausting; especially when you want to be fresh when you see him and bring him a boost of energy!

Good luck!
