Hi,

I'm new to this forum as i was diagnosed 2 weeks ago after a nasty fall no my back. I have damaged my spinal cord between S1 and L5 and I suffer from paralysis of my lower legs and feet. I can only move my toes a little and my calf muscles are wasting already. My neurologist told me I shouldn't expect too much recovery. I use a wheelchair and crutches now because of my in-balance and i have physio to maintain strength in my legs as much as possible. I'm having an appointment for rehabilitation next week and I hope they can help me. I'm still in shock from it all altough i know it could have been much worse. Is there anyone who knows what is going to happen in rehab? I want my life back and be in-dependant.
This site and forum are very helpfull by the way.

Greetings,

Carin

I forgot to mention that I have left some feeling and also tingling sensations in my lower legs and bottom of feet.
I'ts a strange feeling to have and at the same time you can't move your feet.

Greetings,

hi carin  Smiley

welcome  to the forum

your injury is still very 'new' and the feelings/recovery you describe are positive indicators of 'potential' for more recovery

Most people have little or no knowledge of such injuries when they occur to themselves a family member or friend.  We have all been through this situation and would like to help in any way we can.

The following pages at Spinal Injury Network, will help you understand your Spinal Cord Injury a lot better.
