Oh hey Smiley
the name is Melissa, I am 19 years old, I have been a quadriplegic for a little over a year and not even going to lie it can be a lot of fun, why get depressed? Is it going to make you walk again? God is my rock and determination is what I have. I started off not moving anything but my neck and not even being able to breathe on my own (c3 complete). And now? In just a year I'm slowly working on getting my way into a manual wheelchair, I can feed myself, I brush my teeth, and I am in my first year of college. And the reason I have made so much progress? God.faceMy faith is in my creator, I have hope in my recovery, and I serve the world by helping as many people as possible with my inspiration. It's not about myself and my own happiness anymore, I get my happiness from knowing that I can save, change, or even just touch one other person's life with my story.

I just want to give hope to anyone who is out there struggling, depressed, and feels like there is no way out, there is. Science and doctors tell us every day that we will not walk again and we will not ever be the same. Who are they? You are your own happiness and you create your diagnosis. Giving in and giving up is overrated. Be yourself and just love life, take it for what it's worth.

..love love loveee,
melissa

Well done Melissa on making the best of your situation - you've certainly come through a lot and you are taking a very positive and pro-active role in your new life. Am pleased to hear that you are sharing your experiences with others and am in no doubt that you have saved lives by doing so. In fact even if it was only 1 life you saved, it's still one less son/daughter that parents would have to mourn and grieve.

Were you religious or  in a practising religion before your accident or has that belief come to you after your accident?
Hope you don't mind me asking..........
Take care

you know i strongly disagree with yall. i think science will cure you. god is just a supersticous idea that people say to get you motivated. i know so much about the spine that it is almost impossible for a made up idea to cure u. the body will cure itself over time. once the spine is injured in anyway, scarr tissue will form over and around the spine blocking the nerves to travel to the destination their wanting to go to, and it will take about 180 days for that scarr tissue to get better or disapear depending on ur type of injure that will decide weather you walk again or not. if that scarr tissue go away on the part of your spine that lets the walking nerve travel you might be able to walk for a lilttle bit each day. thats the truth about spine injuryies......i hate to burst your bubble but thats just the way it works............

OK, so science will come up with an answer! This is what hope is about; I'm sure we all hope for the cure. Faith, or mind over matter has worked. There are instances of regression of cancer, and other diseases, that exemplify the mind over matter principle. We all know that these cases are a small minority. My reasoning with science is don't hold your breath. Groundbreaking research has been hitting the headlines for over a decade; we still live in hope.
