I'm a quadriplegic for almost 2 decades, I'm 48 years young and due to certain complications have been bedridden for almost 2 years and probably will be for the rest of my life...My question is quite simply...Can anyone tell me what is the average lifespan of a Quadiplegic(C5/C6 level) especially if one is confined to bed and what kind of complications could arise...barring pressure wounds of course, as I'm quite familiar with all the rules and am extremley vigilant when it comes to relieving pressure...I also drink between 4-6 litres of water in a 24hr period...I've recently become a grandmother...so I often wonder how long I'll be around...Someone please enlighten me a little...or a lot!!!  Huh

This is really very own  moment in your life but when i came to know about your problem then I can't stop myself for helping you. If I am not wrong you have spinal problem, it is almost visible in all women in late 35. There is no point for worrying for life span. The highlighted point is you need to take rest most time. Heavy working  should be avoided.
Don't worry just enjoy each moment with your grand son/daughter.
take care
Get well soon.
All is well.

Salina, have you really taken in  what Solitaire has said.  I do not think you understand what she is meaning by being a quadriplegic..

Hello Grandma (Solitaire).

I posed the same questions to my Dr. and he said it was up to me taking care of myself. So far it has been 42 years and still going strong. I expect to live a normal life span.

Good luck and congratulations.

Ive just come on here after a while away and have just spotted Selinas reply which gave me the giggles! Yup... I guess you do have a spinal problem Grandma (Solitaire) Heehee! I think you have already figured that out! Oh and avoid heavy working!

As far as life expectancy in concerned, everyone is different and so everyones life expectancy will be different too. Injured or not.
Concentrate on making the most of what you have, not worrying about how long its going to last.

Congrats on becoming a Grandmother!

Welcome back Jilly!!  Grandma....Salina is a spammer which is why she made absolutely no sense.  I am a t6 incomplete and have made great progress.  I can't speak at all on your subject sorry to say, but I will tell you that everyone here (except idiot spammers) are really great people.  They've helped me through my journey and I can't express how grateful I am just to have a place to talk with those who know what it's like.  I wish you the very best and many, many great years with your family.

Most sincerely,

Amy
