I broke my C1 2 weeks ago, the break was half of the horseshoe, on my right side it was broken crossways, I am in a hard collar and the doctor didnt give me hardly any information at all, Im afraid to even sneeze, after recieving a blow to the head I still walked all around, even moved my head back and forth trying to pop my neck, had no idea it was broke. I am extremely careful and will remain so, I am wanting to know the seriousness and if this collar is normal treatment. Also it has healed some I hope Im telling myself everyday it gets stronger, this is true I hope.
Thank you very much for any information.

Steve

I am assuming you are in the UK. If so, then in order to treat a broken C1-2 bone the hard collar is the correct treatment. Had you broken the bone and suffered spinal cord damage then the treatmetn would have been vastly different.

I would advise EXTREME CAUTION for the immediate future until the bones has healed propertly.

As a side note to this, I posted way back about a mate of mine who had broken his neck and back last June and he was confined to a chair only able to walk short distances. He can now get around the house unaided and progress although slow is steady. This is what you should aim for.

Hope this helps.

Oh, our spinal cord is really very delicate. Have to be careful with whatever we're up to. Know the limitations of what our body can do and we have to be really really cautious.
