I had some right shoulder and arm pain that after a few weeks got worse. I went to the Urgent care and they put me on steriods. It got a little more bearable but was still there and if active really hurt. Went to regular dr and he ordered xray then once he got results ordered an MRI and then within 2 days of results I was at the Neurosurgeons. He said I have a herniated disc at c5 - c6 and of more concern was the bruising of the spinal cord at that area. I have been in other accidents but there was nothing that brought this on to my knowledge. He said it is possible that the bruising has been there from previous but his concern is it could be form the pressure of the disc and he doesn't want it to get worse because at this time I am showing no concerning signs except what would be expected of just the disc. He said to give it 6 more weeks to see if cleared up and to make sure I don't tilt head all the way forward or back and not to work with arms over head. Does this all seem reasonable?> should i be more concerned?

Hi welcome to the site, and if you look back on the forum  you will find similar stories and helpful hints.  my daughter had c5/6 which was not discovered for quiet a few years later, and by that time permanent damage done.  So please take care and listen to what your are told.   Do not know where you are, you could google  cervical  myelopathy  that may help you to understand  what goes on.   best of luck, and do keep us informed.
