Fishing? Really? From, like, a row boat with line and bobber? Sounds as likely as rereading LN. Well, maybe rereading makes sense now that you can read it back to front. Nawwww. But. . . .

Not fishing from a boat. The lazy man's way by sitting at the edge. Or, when the broken bones allow, standing!
Funny thing is, the quiet and the peace seemed to have an effect on "LOVE NOTE." I'll let you know when I finish it.

Ahhh... yes... I like to fish from somewhere that keeps still. I get horribly sea-sick! Anywhere I can cast a line out from will do! Do you prefer fresh water fishing or sea fishing?

Either suits me. I have angling membership for Speyside (an area in North Scotland) and when I visit my aunt that is where I can be found. There are also some private fishing farms around but that is a bit like fishing in your local pond! I prefer the open air.
Must look a pretty site hobbling down to the edge, however, I am not the only disabled fisherman and it is like catching up with family when we all meet. Very therapeutic.

I tried fly fishing once which was a huge joke! I simply could not get the hang of it! my favourite is sitting on rocks at the beach casting out as far as I can.....however that could get tricky if you have limited mobility!! A wharf is nearly as good, except the line tends to get tangled around boats! And most definitely in the open air...it blows all of the cobwebs out of your head!

I drive my Mum crazy because I don't like flies - I prefer "live" bait (when I can get away with it).
So far, despite my mobility, I have not drowned. Mind you, I look a comical sight when trying to wade. I have got round that by not going out too far and adapting my method of "casting off."
A great way to attune to nature.

He he!!!... while we were talking about fishing I was thinking that we had kinda changed the subject and was thinking about starting it as a new topic! Looks like Andy beat me to it! (thanks Andy ) Live Bait!!!!! YUCKY!!!! I simply cant shove a fish hook through something thats still wriggling!!! Its taken me years to be able to remove the hook from a fish I have just caught - and thats with gloves on!!! Lol! Every time I try, they start flapping away and I end up feeling sorry for them!...I mean...its gotta hurt!!

its difficult to keep to the subject lol but if everyone can it makes my input a bit easier I remember as a kid leaving my plastic container of live maggots in our side passage for the next time I went fishing, didn't realise I'd create a swarm of flies to scare my mum a few days later when she was loking for the container I'd borrowed lol I think shes forgiven me just

Thanks Gary, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Remarkable that you can not only stand enough to fish but also wade, which must in ways must be easier than walking on land. Because of the chair I stick to pavement or an occasional dirt road. It's good you can get off road and off by yourself to fish or whatever. Moose, nice administrative decision on the thread, though of course it resulted in the automatic notification emails being dead-ends. Topics do tend to mutate. I never left maggots around that turn into flies but I did leave a praying mantis egg-case on the piano; mantises aren't born as just twins or triplets but by the hundreds.

Once I started my FES treatment a few years ago in USA, I was out fishing one day and believe it or not fell in. So I had to sink or swim! Anyroads, after a few near drownings, I discovered that I could wade out just enough to let me have a good few hours fishing using an old walking frame for support. Who the hell cares what I look like it provides me with endless hours of pleasure.
Over the past handful of years, I have been lucky enough to recover and retain my mobility and for that I am thankful. Mind you, since breaking both legs, I have to admit they do tend to ache if I stand for too long. However, no pain no gain.

I spent £3000 on carp fishing gear (bite alarms,3 matching rods reels) etc. Used it all 2 times then had my accident. Carp fishing in't like normal fishing. You go for 2 -3 days and camp etc. I wouldn't be able to do any more so sold the lot....for £1800. Never mind !

There is a little all terrain, amphibious vehicle...(I think it is called an Argo...something like that anyway - I will check) This thing looks a little bit like a jeep crossed with a tank! It can go from land to water - so you can drive through the mud, over the bumps, across the water, fish for a while, drive back over the water, to land again!! Its not very big, but I think it can take 2 - 3 people on water. T is trying to get ACC to buy him one to 'maintain' his lifestyle!

I can't look any dafter than I do at present. How many fishermen have you seen wading out with a walking frame?

I sure as hell gave up a long time ago caring a toss what others think. If I want to do something and cannot do it the way I used to then I will try and find an alternative way.

Fishing is definately the one thing John is determined not to give up on. He loves sea fishing and infact on Sunday we ate the Dover Sole he caught that day. He used to go fishing several times a week, but he has only been about 10 times this year, but even though he aches like hell once he stops and comes home, he just keeps going back for more pain or is it fish!!!!!!!!!
I also fish occasionally with him, but his main partner in crime is my brother, and when they aren't fishing they are talking about it. He hates having to buy his bait these days, but he just can't dig it due to pain and injury, he also casts to the left these days, but he has developed a new way of aiming to the right and hoping that sends it straight out. He has masses of fishing tackle, rods etc, he is chairman of the Corus Sea Angling Club, which also gives him another outlet to discuss fishing with like minded people, and some how or another I've become the club secretary.
Nothing can beat a day/night fishing on a beach with nothing else to think about.
We are going away for a week to West Wales next week, and there is more fishing gear packed than anything else.
Maria
