OH DOCTOR I'M IN TROUBLE...

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=17742614&method=full&siteid=66633&headline=i-will-walk-again--name_page.html

How's this for determination? Only a 20-30% chance of walking again but this young guy says he is "going for it."

I wish him all the luck as I expect he will need it.

Mind you, a mate of mine in USA had an accident with a jeep in Iraq and he was given even less of a chance yet today, nearly 2 years later, he is getting around with only one stick.

I am told by an orthopod surgeon at work that walking depends on where in your neck you break and you have to be incomplete to do so.

Anyway, good luck to the guy. It's nice to get a good story out of the "Daily Record" normally it is scandal.

I wish him all the luck too. Glasgow Southern General isn't that where you work Gary? perhaps you could pop in and visit him as I expect that's motivating to see someone who is doing well with any injury/disability (at least I found it so) &/or you can give us a status update every so often.

Sorry to disappoint Gaz. I dont work in the Southern. I have a colleague who does.

I wish I did as I imagine that would be a lot more interesting than some of the routine ops that we do. Yesterday, we did 6 gallbladder ops and I tell you, one is bad enough but all 6 one after the other is too much.

I would like to be connected with a spinal unit, however, I understand that their ops are performed by the neurological department and they dont have their own dedicated operating theatre. I guess I will just have to move to the US where they have orthopaedic surgeons AND specialised spinal surgeons.

Mind you, it's a long way to go to fulfil and ambition.

Ah ok, where do you work then?

I though there was only one (ish) in the Glasgow area (the last time I was there mind was about 10-12 yrs back but it was a surprisingly nice/up n coming flash place) Years ago when I was a kid I used to live in Edinburgh too & even had a Scottish accent ha.

Before my accident, I used to work in the T.V industry, and we used to film operations for 3M Healthcare. I also had to log all the tapes, so got to see quite a few operations.

We filmed one operation in Edinburgh, a hip replacement I think.

I swear to God someone is playing silly beggars with my computer.

I have already posted this but it seems to have vanished.

In Glasgow there are a range of hospitals:

Western Infirmary also has an A&E
Gartnavel General no A&E
Royal Infirmary has an A&E
Yorkhill Childrens
Queen Mother Maternity

On the outskirts each major town has its own hospital usually (if they are not closing them)

Then there are Golden Jubilee, The Nuffield, Ross Hall to name but a few in the private sector.

Then there is "The Southern" which is going to be "the main" hospital soon as they are closing The Western. "The Southern" is famous for the Queen Elizabeth Spinal Unit, although that is only a small part of a big hospital. It is of course famous for its neurological department. The spinal unit is only made up of 2 wards.

So, you were raised in Edinburgh - you are a "burger" whilst I am a "weegie."

I think there is no humour like the Glaswegian. Like Rab C Nesbitt - a big man with a big heart.

There was an advert on the TV recently for Glasgow and Edinburgh in Glasgow we have "Kelvinside" whilst in Edinburgh you have "Morningside."

All good natured banter.
