I've had Henry my assistance dog a little over 3 years now and he is such an important part of my life.  It's not just the physical things he does which are pretty amazing but also his companionship too.  He helps me out in so many ways and definately helped me deal with my bereavement last year.  I no longer need an evening care visit because Henry helps me get undressed now too, which means I can go to bed what time 'I' want to and not when the carer decides to come to my house!

I love this picture a local news photographer took last week and thought I'd share it with you

What a wonderful dog Henry is.

I have been a dog owner myself, and know that you can train them to do all sorts of things, but I never imagined them doing most of the things that Henry does. Imagine....a dog that can help with the washing - all you have to do now is teach him to hang it out for you!!
Nice photo too Smiley

Andy,

Nice pics, wonderful story...Henry sounds amazing! I guess that makes you two a perfect match, as I have read thru the forums I see that you too are pretty amazing.

I have always been a dog lover & had twin black labs up until 2yrs before my accident. I have often thought of looking into an assistance dog but have the misfortune of severe allergies that surfaced about 4-5 yrs ago Sad  As much as I love animals, I can no longer have them in the house or be around them for very long without actually getting hives & difficulty with breathing. My doctors have prescribed allergy meds to reduce my symptoms but so far none have actually stopped them.

BTW, I tip my hat & say thanks to you for hosting this forum.

Andy,

Yep, I agree too with the others. Top picture & I know he's a great dog from the things you've written previously mind you he'll have to get off from that position when you do the China bike ride  Tongue

thanks guys and gals ........ Babs in the UK they cross breed labradors and giant poodles making labradoodles, which have been very good for people with allergies/difficult breathing as the cross breed carries over the poodles non hair shedding characteristics .... they are a funky looking dog too
