Hiya chaps and chapesses how the hell are you all?

So sorry I havent been posting much recently.  Time just seems to fly by these days and I've always got a million and one things to do.  Nico's doing really well although he's just starting with another damn bladder infection.  We're going away for a week on Saturday to a friends holiday bungalow near Dumfries and I can't wait.  A break from the norm will be absolutely brill.

We've just given the builders the go ahead to start the alterations to our bungalow.  We're building an en-suite special wet room for Nico, lots of raising and dropping levels all round the place to get things nice and even and building a HUGE double garage.  I think Nico's missing a place to put tools etc, you know those man things that you all like to hoard, so we're building an extra big garage so he'll get a good sized work bench at the end.

Would you believe this, our OT came 2 weeks ago and that's only the 3 time we've ever seen her.  Nico was teling her about the extension and how he can't wait to get a shower.  The last time he had one was 6th Aug 2005, the day before his accident.  The OT then offered a bath lift that sits in our current bath and can lower/lift Nico in and out.  Why the hell has it taken her 7 months to offer this, we didn't even know about things like that.  We'd told her before the trouble he has washing and her usual response is "Oh dear" or "yes it'll be difficult".  I thought the roll of an OT was to make sure you're managing with day to day things, and not at the expense of your wife's sanity!  I really dislike that woman.  Anyway, rant over, sorry!  The bath lift arrived yesterday and you should've seen Nico, he was like a pig in you know what!  I won't tell you what I had to do to coaxe him out of the bath ha ha.

Hope you all keeping well, I'll go and read some more posts now.

xx Cat xx

PS  Coach - loved your response to the hogus bogus herb whatsit but didn't want to say that on that post and push it to the top again!

Hiya Cat

What can I say about OTs. I do work with the NHS remember?

You have to keep on top of those folk. I got over the problem of a bath lift by having the tilers come in and add an extra lip of tiling around the bath - you may want to do something like this when making your wet room.

Anyroads, you have your bath, only the bath is inset into the tiling, giving you a space to sit. I get on there and then lift my legs into the bath. To get out, I lever myself up to the top of the bath, balance on the ledge and lift my legs on to the carpet.

Since my accident on 1/1/2006, my folks have purchased a bath seat which lowers me into the bath. However, I still prefer to get in the "normal" way.

It may be different for me because it is only nerves that are damaged. I love my bath and prefer it to a shower.

Hope you enjoy your holiday in Dumfries - that will make a change for you. I love it down there.

When is Nico going back to work? Mind you, not that he should be in too much of a hurry, better to get well rehabed first.

Glad to hear you are doing well.

Love to you both

Hi Cat & Nico,

Have a lovely holiday. It will be nice to get away.  My son would love any kind of a proper wash. He only ever has bed baths. He is looking forward to a shower or a bath whenever he moves to his nursing home (no date yet).

Cat,

Sounds like things are going well. My last bath was I think in 1989. It was okay but on the whole not worth the trouble; I've a bad attitude. OTs are a funny breed, but there are good ones. Yours is a little slow on the uptake, eh? I hope the latest infection's minor and the Dumfries beautiful.
