Andy, I read your personal story about your injury and what life has been like since and am impressed with your great attitude.  I am a graduate student and am doing a report on spinal cord injury and the effects it has in the lives of those involved and was wondering if I could use your story in my report.

Dear Sir,

My name is Sheldon Martin and I was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on July 24, 2009.
I was T-Boned by an oncoming driver that had been driving at 160 km and had struck th drivers side of my truck.

Upon impact my lower waist was pushed to the right until the seat belt wire prevented my lower body moving towards the passengers side of the truck. Then my upper body had been stretched and I felt my lower spine rip or tear upon impact. As soon as my truck had come to a stop I had immediate abdominal pain excruciating and tingling in both my feet and numbness in my legs.

I had immediate loss of bladder and bowel control, and total loss of sexual function.
My legs had got worse each month and became weak and to here point I became wheel chair bound because I was no longer able to walk. All my symptoms are the same to date almost 2 years
and I have not been able to see a spinal unit to be assessed to date.

My doctor seems to think it is Conversion Disorder, I disagree as I am unable to walk, have great difficulty urinating and have excruciating lower spinal pain in my buttocks, and back of my legs. I still have loss of sensation in my legs and pins and needles in both my feet.

What are your thoughts? I have been to a urologist and he thinks it is a incomplete spinal injury as well three other doctors, but my own GP seems to think otherwise. I know it is not your job to convince my doctor of my injuries, but I just want some closer as I have been in so much pain for two years I need to know we're I should focuses my medical efforts for treatment.

If you could please email me your thought I would be so thankful.

Have you thought of changing your GP ? I don't really think I believe in conversion disorder, there's always a reason as to what's gone wrong.
