It's always a  huge problem not being able to take my shower chair with me when I travel. Who's got the solution for that (major) inconvenience?

I have always been able to have the necessary equipment provided for me alway provided that I give the hotel adequate notice of my intention to stay there. I chek that all my hotels/B&Bs, etc, are geared up for disabled before I go. It has never once failed me - either here in the UK or when I was able to go abroad.

Hiya Goldnucs, welcome to the board.

My hubby, Nico (who is sci at T6 complete) and I went to Poole in June.  We had a comode/shower chair supplied by the Red Cross who delivered it to the hotel and collected it when we left.  All they asked for was a donation, which we gave gladly and generously.  That sort of service is almost priceless to us.  They have all sorts of equipment they will loan.  It was very clean and an relatively easy experience.  Give them a try!
