Ski Carting Ski Carting is an amazing
technology enabling those with
the most severe disabilities to ski. Most quadriplegics
with some arm function will be able to ski these Carts
independently. You sit in a moulded body hugging
fibreglass shell connected by a metal chassis and suspension to
four skis. The Carts don't require balancing or outriggers
and are completely stable at rest. Two levers at waist
level are pushed or pulled to turn the two front ski's on the
ski Cart. If you don't have great grip then there's a
variety of different levers to choose from ands specially
adapted gloves to keep your hand on the levers. When
learning to ski these Carts they can be controlled by a ski
instructor using a tether rope attached to the rear. The Carts
cannot use chair lifts and use the button lifts instead.
Sweden leads the way in the use of these Carts at their ski
school in Are. I have skied these Carts for the last 3 ski
seasons in Sweden and photos/videos and information about my
trips can be found here
